The writers and director had a global market in mind when they shot the film. Hoping to reap box-office monies from Korea's new film market, India, and the pan-Chinese communities with actors from these geographies making appearances. Mallika Sherawat and the Indian actors were more of a superficial plot line manipulated to give more validity to this "Chinese" myth. By incorporating India and Korea, the film establishes what power the "grand" Qin dynasty "supposedly" acquired in their bloody campaigns to gain territory. The fabrication dismisses both Korean and Indian cultures as independent civilizations; as far as the film is concerned, the audience is left believing East Asia is one huge community with Chinese history as the pillar of civilization. Perhaps this is exactly the idea the producers are looking for. The Korean costumes and artifacts are from the 19th century CE when the movie is supposed to take place in the 3rd century BCE, talk about temporal displacement...
For the most part, the propaganda in such movies will not stop. I'm interested to see how far this trend of infusing subliminal sino-centric messages will last. But it's so fun pulling apart all the stereotypes and sub-textual messages.
Actually the movie had shown me a brilliant inspirational History in China within the Qin Shi Huang's tomb. Many Archaeologist could not prove the true fact of History within the eternal life medicine and the palaces that had burnt when the established of Western Han Dynasty. I give a big applause to Stanley Tong and Jackie Chan for their inspirational in this movie. They gave a heroism spirit to all of China people, they should be proud of their history and cultures. History taught us about to give a respect ancestor and where we are come from. In the future, I hope I could see more heroic and historical China movies. Best wishes to of JCE Production
