Gear shift pattern will be the same also. The carmakers build these mechanicals in only one version, no matter which side the driver is seated. It's also gas pedal on right - brake on left for the auto tranny cars. We've driven nothing but manuals since 1979. Other than using the left hand on the shift, we don't
No. It would cost manufacturers a lot of money to reverse the shift patterns for RHD vehicles. The shift pattern remains the same for both LHD and RHD vehicles. Besides, if you learn to shift with your left hand and 1st gear is always farthest away from you, it becomes accepted and second nature anyway
The shift pattern refers to the layout of the gears. In a typical manual transmission car, first gear is located to the left, and forwards. In many trucks and some sports cars it is instead in a "dog leg" position, to the left and rearwards.

The thing I had trouble with was the blinker. It was on the right hand side of the wheel instead of the left, so when I went to signal a turn, I turned on the
25 Jan 2018 I never really planned it this way, but despite being a proud American, I've been driving on a sort of regular basis right-hand drive cars for over 10 Shifting and Pedals. If your RHD car is a manual, you may find that when you start driving it, your brain will want to flip the shift pattern horizontally in your mind
So my question is, how do you islanders (ever thought about how it almost only islands that drive on the right?) cope with manual transmissions? I realize it'd probably be too costly to reverse the shift pattern for RHD countries but what about older cars that were never made in LHD-spec, did they also have
