Previously on the Jackie Chan show: Chan has always taken pride in doing all his own stunts, but now he'll be known for just loving the safety of that green screen.
This one's gonna be quick. It's been five days since I've seen it and I've already recovered from this experience. Or mostly. I'm still trying to void this from my memory.
The background is: I have been a long-time Jackie Chan fan. Some of his movies have been fantastic or true pleasures of mine, while most have been silly and borderline unwatchable. This one falls into the latter category.
Chan always knew he couldn't maintain an American cinema of choice without teaming up with someone recognizable to us. First it was Chris Tucker and then Owen Wilson. Now
Johnny Knoxville? Well, to be frank, which one of the past-their-prime actors are really trying to reclaim fame?
Jackie looks old and sad for the most part. That said, he did try to act like he was back in his 30s and 40s again with another same-old story he's been caught up in many, MANY times before. Only this time, his partner, Knoxville, was obnoxious. I do like him, normally, but here he felt out of place, his character was a deadly cycle of repetitiveness and had almost zero chemistry with Chan. Shame.
Again, the story is the same old Chan movie story, so not worth mentioning other than he and his unwilling partner have to go from point A through many locations to point B and save someone due to loyalty.
While most of the action and grand scale scenes were laughably bad – dang, terrible green screen, some worked, mainly the finale. And it was nice to see Chan at least trying his hand at the Expendables genre.
I think he should stop. Or resign himself from the lead. Like being a boss baddie in Expendables IV with very little, but effective fight scenes. Go out like a champ, Chan.

Final thoughts: I just can't recommend Skiptrace (why did they call it that??) since the movie was very choppy, had terrible effects and the twist had been done so many times, you guess it instantly. Just watch his classics like Rumble in the Bronx and Rush Hour. And damnit, already, release Rush Hour 2 on BluRay. I have 1 and 3. Need to complete the collection!

I was never a huge fan of Jackie Chan but i did always find him a good actor and the fact that he is doing his own stunts was always impressive but lately his movies haven't achieved the impact that they once had and i get it times have changed and he is getting older for sure but honestly i just finished watching Skiptrace and i don't get the hate it received sure it's not a perfect film i mean the story and the comedy at times could have been a lot better but that doesn't mean that it was a complete disaster i honestly think that Jackie Chan's American Movies are way better than the ones he is doing in China and i'm just being honest. Skiptrace had a lot of great action scenes and there was a lot of fight scenes in like every 5 to 20 minutes and that is what i like about films like this , the stunt work was terrific and basically it's a Jackie Chan movie so what did you expect? His chemistry with Johnny Knoxville was amazing and although i think that Knoxville is not that great of an actor he works pretty well done for films of this level and he did a great job in The Last Stand a few years back where he starred alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger. Also Eve Torres as a Russian chick named Dasha? Was pretty cool too so overall i found Skiptrace a very enjoyable film it had great action, great stunts and the humor for the most part worked plus the twist in the ending added a bit drama to it as well which i liked. (9/10)
Skiptrace remains lively, diverting, and essentially good-natured even when it’s cheerfully dumb, exploiting its diverse locations for every last drop of local color.
