Best friends, Marie and Alexia, are driving out to a peaceful rural weekend to visit Alexia's parents in their secluded cottage, unbeknownst to them that a deranged and utterly sadistic killer is prowling the area, hacking and slashing for his perverse pleasure. As a result, in the dead of night, a brutal massacre will follow where none shall be spared except for the helpless Alexia who will end up as the madman's hostage. Inevitably, with Marie as the sole survivor, a sinister cat-and-mouse game will soon begin, as the young woman will do anything in her power to save her friend. But is this the end of the nightmare?
Alexia travels with her friend Marie to spend a couple of days with her family in their farm in the country. They arrive late and they are welcomed by Alexia's father. Late in the night, a sadistic and sick killer breaks into the farmhouse, slaughters Alexia's family--including their dog--and kidnaps Alexia. Marie hides from the criminal and tries to help the hysterical and frightened Alexia, chase the maniac, and disclose his identity in the end.
Before I watched Hills Have Eyes II I had never heard anything about it. I didn't even know that it existed. Also, I have never set such a low grade on anything than what I am giving this film. I loved the first one, and this is just as everyone (especially the first person to comment) else has already said. But what stopped me from having a heart attack of disappointment on the filmmakers, was that I saw that it wasn't the same director that made the first one. And thank God for that. This, does not compute.
Another thing that struck me after watching this, was that the rape-scene in Hills have eyes 1 had a point and somewhat was describing the moral of the mutants. But in this film, the rape-scene was just there for one reason, which you who have seen it already knows. And it was just disgusting. I hate sexual violence, but of course it can serve a point. In this movie however, it did not quite. It would just be enough to say it, not show it.
This movie did interest me even though I hate the idea of dubbing a movie instead of just having sub titles (I think it is cheap). Anyway, the movie was interesting me with the relentless killer who you hate from the beginning. The gore added an extra something ti the movie. The issue I had was the obvious poor writing of the movie. Youfinally realze that it is the main character doing the killing and that she has the duel personality. What they didn't elaborate on or even touch is HOW all this stuff happened with this one person instead of teo. Where did the hostage truck come from? She was obviously not only crazy over this one girl but many. They never went into the others that she killed and now why this girl. Certain things were not explained well enough to make you feel completely fulfilled with this movie. It was put together too fast. Some movies are just horrible like 1000 corpses but this one just needed some fine tuning.
That outrageous third-act reveal proves to be a major deal-breaker.
"Sara 'Perche' Ti Amo" by Ricchi & Poveri. "Runaway Girl" by U. Roy. "New Born" by Muse. "Superstar" by Sonic Youth, which is a cover of "Superstar" by The Carpenters. You can view the film in three ways:
(1) U.S. English Language Dubbed Version - everything is dubbed in English.
(2) U.S. Unrated Version - half of the film is subtitled, and half of the film is dubbed (which is how it was released in theaters).
(3) Original French Language Director's Cut Version - everything is in French.
The film itself is the same no matter which version you choose. The only problem with choosing the Original French Language Director's Cut Version is that the subtitles are not entirely accurate. There were lines added in the U.S. English Dubbed Version, so if you choose to view the film in French, the English subtitles will sometimes display lines that are not being said by anyone. For the US theatrical release, the film was rated R by the MPAA. To achieve this, the film had to be cut heavily. More than one minute of violence is missing in different scenes.
The Korean DVD is censored as well. Nearly 1 minute is missing in this version. Yes--it's loosely based on the novel Intensity by Dean Koontz. A soundtrack album featuring François-Eudes Chanfrault's electronic score was supposed to be released by Thrive Records in the United States, but it was ultimately canceled. On the composer's official Web site (http://personal.computer.free.fr/web/) a link is available to stream "Faustina Mauricio Mercedes Part IV." If you dig deeply enough through the coding, however, about 30 minutes of audio from the score can be downloaded. The 2005 US DVD of High Tension had to be retouched before its release. However, the content that had to be removed from the movie was not of a violent nature, as one might suspect. Instead, the Jack Daniel's logo was removed every time it could be seen. Unfortunately, we do not know why this happened and whether it was someone from Lionsgate or someone from Jack Daniel's who stepped in. a5c7b9f00b
