An account of the romance between the Maratha general, Baji Rao I and Mastani, princess of Bundelkhand.
Bajirao 1, who fought over 41 major battles and many others, was reputed never to have lost a single one of them. Bajirao is described as "RANMARD" a man made of and for the battlefield. Bajirao said to his brother "Remember that night has nothing to do with sleep. It was created by God, to raid territory held by your enemy. The night is your shield, your screen against the cannons and swords of vastly superior enemy forces. " A born cavalry leader Bajirao was unequaled for the daring and originality of his genius. Mastani, the fabled warrior princess was the daughter of Raja Chattrasal and his Persian wife Roohani Begum. An expert dancer, singer and warrior, Mastani is sent to battle at the head of the Bundelkhand army. A chance meeting on a war field where they fight on the same side, puts Bajirao and Mastani on a course of passionate love- that is unstoppable by either of their families, by war or by death itself.
Saw Bajirao Mastani was a bit disappointed. All the grandeur and directorial skills are wasted on a skimpy story and more skimpy imagination of the story writer. What could have been a story of great warrior turns out to be a damp squib. The Peshwa's perplexing personality which is waiting to explode and show it's heroics, implodes with a weak ending. Feel sorry for not depicting the glory fully. The love angle also is more like a documentary with Irfaan ranting on as if he is the spokesperson of inter faith marriage leading to communal harmony. The dead pan expressions of Ranveer and Deepika were vying with each other in proving the chemistry being stronger than that between Helium and Gold (Both representing Helium). PC was the saving grace with an honest portrayal of the wronged wife. The law of average has caught up with hit maker of Black, Khamoshi, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Saavarian, oops the last one was intentional intrusional inclusion to prove law of averages. The sets were grand, the attire classic but not authentic, Puneri queens never showed their belly buttons in nau vaari saari (nine yard sari) the pallu was always over the head, and only visible persona was face, palms and feet. Why great thinkers like SLB forget that pure valor also sells? With a touch of sadness, I perambulated over the possibility of RGV making the remake with Rekha as Mastani (can beat DP black and blue even today with hands down, acting with her eyes only) Jaya Bhaduri as Kashibai, and Amitabh as Bajirao. How I would love to see serious effort being made to blend love and war. Bachpana bahut ho gaya.

There is a lot to say about this movie but can't cover all this in small review...
While trailer I was thinking that movie will be once watch kinda...but SLB & all actors proved me wrong...and I am very happy for that...
Marvelous performances and Hats off to SLB sir... One can easily see what hard-work ranvir singh has done...I can say he lived the character...Deepika was too much effective without saying more dialogues...she was speaking with her eyes...Priyanka was also best choice for kashibai... All other supporting cast has also done their part very well...
Great movie and can say leave other movies but don't miss this one to watch in theater...
This movie is writing history in bollywood...
