'79 Ironhead Sportster Oil Question Ironhead; Top 10 Contributor Male . In WA state, i run 20/40 valvoline pretty much year round in my 75 xlch. Manual says 20/50 but that makes it a hard starter for sure. I belive this allows a transfer of oil and pressure between crank and primary, they eventually mix.
