I get the error above -where x.pem is just a file i used to save a copy of the key found in authorizedkeys as it is on the victim machineI have created a new user (named: senthil) and just used it for SSHhowever, when I issued the following command : rootkali:/Desktop# ssh -o BatchMode="yes" -i /Desktop/x.pem root10.0.0.50 Permission denied (publickey,gssapi-with-mic,password)shareimprove this answer edited Jul 2 '13 at 11:35 answered Jul 2 '13 at 11:25 gertvdijk 42.7k17119201 I feel the user 'ubuntu' is locked for security reasonsrev 2017.8.9.26742 As for my sshd config: Code: # $OpenBSD: sshdconfig,v 1.69 2004/05/23 23:59:53 dtucker Exp $ # This is the sshd server system-wide configuration fileChange password and check /etc/shadow file again–JakeGould Feb 22 '15 at 5:14 add a comment 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote In the past the connection on my DSL has been slow and spurious to my serverJoin them; it only takes a minute: Sign up Here's how it works: Anybody can ask a question Anybody can answer The best answers are voted up and rise to the top Can't login through remote SSH with correct password up vote 2 down vote favorite On a cPanel server, where SSH worked yesterday, I suddenly cant login with SSH
To login to console, you'll need your root user passwordBarryG 0 23 Apr 2015 7:46 PM Hi,youcannnotSSHinas'root',youmustalwaysuse'loginuser'.Barry BAlfson 0 24 Apr 2015 6:47 PM IalwaysuseanSSHkeyandselect"allowrootaccessbutonlywithSSHkey."Goinginasloginuserisonlygoodforgreppingaspecificlogfileortoday'slogs.Cheers-Bob SimonHanselmann 0 20 May 2015 11:30 AM Icanconfirmthatthebugisstillpresentin9.312-6.Iwasunabletosetbothrootandloginuserthesametime.OneaftertheotherworkedperfectIf the above makes you feel uncomfortable, you could create a separate user: sudo adduser username and answer the questionsssh beta192.168.0.101 beta192.168.0.101's password: betaServer:$sudo -s rootServer:$ This should help I thinkPrivate keys usually look like /.ssh/idrsa, /.ssh/iddsa, /.ssh/something.idrsa, etcNotices Welcome to LinuxQuestions.org, a friendly and active Linux CommunityHence please forgive me if the question is too simple.Even after moving to a different host in a different country
See the /etc/ssh/sshdconfig file; this is the PermitRootLogin optionWhat I meant was : In your current shell, "sudo -i" works ; After that, will "su $USER" or "su - $USER" work ; Or Will it fail with "$USER not found" or "Home Directory not found" ? (3) What is the output of "id $USER" ? (4) What are the permissions of your home Directory & /.ssh/ ? (5) Can you create another local account and login , with changes in password ? Or is the problem only with your current account ? (6) Is your account listed correctly in /etc/passwd ? (7) Is the list shell starting correctly when you try to manually execute it ? FINAL EDIT ( after OP found his own issue ) : If every new user can login, but after password change, login shows "Permission Denied", then check what what exacctly is changing, in /etc/passwd & /etc/shadowThe account is not locked (at least usermod -U has no impact and there is no '!' in the shadow file)However, i note that it is a wrong password because of differrence between keyboard layout of server snd client : In Server, i thought that i set password : WEwdds And , i note that is " in the server keyboard layoutButviatheloginprocessoverSSH,Ionlygotthemessage"Accessdenied"whenItipedinthepassword.Sameproblemallthetime,foreverypassword-changes-everytimetogetherfor"loginuser"and"root".Rebootdidn'thelp.Not the answer you're looking for? I tried but the ssh -v output didn't change, i.e., it didn't have hostbased or keyboard-interactive in the list of "Authentications that can continue"If you never received a password and your Droplet is setup with SSH Keys only, there's very little that can be done at this point, unfortunately, as you can't use SSH Keys to login to the console 89584491e5
