I'm pretty new to powershell I found a ps script that will convert old Microsoft Word 97, 2003, and 2007 documents from the extension .doc to the new Microsoft Word When you convert files from word to pdf, you should use word comobject. I don't know why there is something wrong when you convert your doc to pdf files.
If you have Office 2007 or 2010 installed (which can export as PDF natively) you don't even have to go through the printer (although that should work too).
