2055, Charles Hatton has made a fortune by founding 'Time safari', which offers rich 'big game hunters' short time travels to kill off dinosaurs just before their natural death. When Travis notices the weather and wildlife are not behaving as usual, he consults Dr. Rand, the contractually invisible inventor of the supercomputer which controls the time travel. They soon face 'time waves', each worsening the effects in 2055 of evolutionary distortions, lower lifeforms first. They attempt to identify and rectify the past alteration, but each attempt gets harder in their distorted present.
When a scientist sent back to the prehistoric era strays off the path he causes a chain of events that alters history in disastrous ways.
I live for movies like this.
Saw it in a theater with about 12 other people. 3 people left about 20 minutes in. I'm not sure if they left because the movie was so bad or because they couldn't hear the dialogue over the laughter of the rest of us.
Mediocre special effects don't excite me. Abysmally bad special effects are wonderful. I disagree with the previous commenter -- I don't think the actors were walking on a treadmill in front of the green screen, I think they were just standing in place and shifting their weight from one foot to the other.
Sir Ben Kingsley is clearly aware of the "quality" of this film and embraces the ridiculousness, having a great time reading his absurd lines.
The plot, the dialogue, the special effects, the creatures, the actor's accents -- each piece of this movie is worse than the last. There were at least three scenes that made me laugh so hard I cried.
I love dumpster-diving through bad movies in search of treasure. The recent crop of bad movies have been just plain boring. This one is the diamond that makes it all worthwhile.
More than a quarter of century ago Peter Hyams was directing Harrison Ford in 'Hanover Street'. It is hard to believe that this 2006 science-fiction flop comes from the same director. Ben Kigsley is a wonderful actor, Oscar winner, one of those actors than seem that they cannot do wrong. What made him do this film at all, and then act so badly in this bad movie is hard to imagine.
One has to wonder why such talented people spent their money and risked their name participating in such an enterprise. Ray Bradbury's idea in this story is already famous, and many other movies and books have been made and written based on time loops, on going back and influencing your own and humanity's future by actions in the past ('Back to the Future' is one famous example). However this film is devoid of any ambition to be more than a routine B-movie, the plot is full of holes, the special effects are naive, and the acting is so conventional that it makes one being nostalgic after the good old Star Trek series.
Waste of time.
Though he tries hard for bravado, hero Edward Burns is terminally wooden.
