You know what I hate?
How hypocritical the True Blood fandom can be at times. Mostly when it comes to Eric.
Most of the fandom thinks that Pam is a spoiled child who just doesn’t understand Eric and Sookie’s relationship and is acting irrationally. But they turn around and say the exact opposite about Eric and Godric. The truth is, Eric and Godric’s relationship is just like Eric and Pam’s. They even went through a similar struggle but the fandom takes them in completely opposite directions.
When Godric was going to meet the sun, Eric was on his knees, weeping and begging him not to do it. He said “I won’t let you die alone". Eric was willing to die with him. That’s how much love he has for him. Eric even said “I will keep you alive by force" and he would have tried to if Godric hadn’t commanded him to leave. Do you seriously think that if there had been a grenade launcher sitting around and someone was standing in his way of saving Godric, that Eric wouldn’t have fired it? Cause he would. Without a doubt. He would have launched that thing at Sookie so fast. He loves her but not more than his own Maker.
This is exactly what Pam was doing. In the moment, she did the only thing she could think to do. Grabbing the nearest weapon and creating one damn good distraction was the best idea she could come up with. Of course it was irrational thinking because there was no time for logic. She didn’t have the time to think it through. Pam has always been someone who acts on impulse. She isn’t a strategist. That’s Eric’s job. We saw that a lot through season 4. Pam was trying her best to fix Eric’s curse and get him restored to the vampire she knew but it wasn’t going to be a piece of cake. She did the best she could with what she had, which wasn’t much. Bill was against her and so was the AVL. The witches were too powerful to take on alone. But she didn’t give up. She committed treason multiple times in order to keep Eric safe or to try and break Eric’s curse. After lying to Bill about everything involving Eric, he finally caught her in a lie. What was she supposed to do? Just let Bill kill her? We all know he would have done it. All the allegations were against her. He could have written it off easily to the AVL. We even see later how much regret Pam has for telling Bill Eric’s location. She is cowering under a blanket for god’s sake. Of course she didn’t want to tell him. She isn’t perfect. She has flaws. But her intentions were good. If Eric had made one or two mistakes then that would be fine. No one is without faults. But he had an entire season of stupid decisions and treating Pam like shit. What’s worse, they didn’t even explain it or say that he was making mistakes. They ended the season with him being completely okay with treating his progeny the way he did. He showed no remorse nor did he seem to think about her at all - period. Not even when she was in the room with him was he thinking about her.
Yes, Eric is in love with Sookie. I understand that. But he doesn’t need to completely lose his mind and balls because of it. He had the hots for her fro three seasons without going bonkers. But now he’s gaga for Stackhouse and is pushing everyone else away because of it. Why can’t he love two people at the same time? Why does Pam have to suffer because Eric has a new girl?
I can understand Pam being jealous of Sookie. Of course she would be. For over a hundred years, Pam has been Eric’s number one girl and now she has to share that title with someone else. She has to share Eric. But it’s gone beyond that. Eric is treating Pam as if she doesn’t register on his radar anymore. As if Sookie has taken her spot. He needs to understand that it’s possible to love two people at the same time without anybody getting hurt. This is like a man finding a new wife and completely neglecting his daughter because he doesn’t have time to love more than one thing at a time. It’s not right.
So, let’s not say that Eric’s perfect because he most certainly is not. None of them are. But he definitely fucked up a lot this season.
