Someone asked: Do you do dog shows with Kira? Has she ever won a title?
We went a couple of times, to see what it’s like. she won Best Baby as a puppy and then Youth Winner. However, I’m not a great fan of dog shows, I hate the competitiveness and especially what some people are willing to do in order to win. Dog shows are a good place to socialise your dog, get him or her used to the crowds both of people and of dogs, and what I do like about it is that it does not just focus on appearance but also on behaviour and how the dog and its owner work as a team. But those are the only pros I can see. It’s definitely not a relaxed environment. It is not about the dogs, but about people. Every judge has their own idea of what the best representative of a particular breed should look like. Yes, they must follow the standard, but come on, we all know there are variations - with wolfdogs there are judges who clearly prefer light-coloured dogs with a silvery coat to the wolfy looking ones, judges who prefer big, heavy dogs or long fluffy coat…. and of course, there’s corruption, too.
Even though behaviour is considered, it is first and foremost a competition about the looks and about setting a standard of what every dog of a particular breed should look like. a breeder can carry out his or her very own little experiment in eugenics and that’s not right. the idea that a puppy is worth less (or nothing) when it doesn’t fulfill the requirements set by the standard is wrong and evil. Czechoslovakian wolfdogs were originally bred for their health and stamina not for the looks. That’s what’s most important.
So i wonder how you in sweden feel about this whit dog show?

I really don't like shows. As you say; a great way to socialize your dog and also meet people, but just the fact that it's all about looks make me sick. Sure, when I get an alaskan malamute, I'll probably go on a few shows, but most to help the breeders and to have fun (I mean, bows are fun!), but I'd never go looking for a dog just to be able to win a lot of dog shows. That's one reason to why I've chosen the breed that I have. It's built for working and that's what's most important with the breed. To get healthy, strong dogs who are capable of doing what they're meant to!
Then I have a serious problem with all the breeders that are stuck in the thinking that a dog HAVE to be purebred and have at least some winnings in shows in order to count. My beloved boy is a former homeless dog from Romania and I believe that I won't find such a grateful, funny and loving dog anywhere else.
So yeah... Those are my thoughts in this matter :)
