Anonymous asked: When you and Kira play, does she "play bite" you or will you occasionally get a good bite done to you, drawing blood?
Jesus no, there’s definitely something wrong if your dog bites you so hard you bleed; especially because that would require a tearing motion and so it’d likely be the dog’s intention rather than a mere accident. I was bitten by a dog only once (it wasn’t Kira), and that was entirely my fault, because I tried to move a stick he was holding…
Naturally, dogs don’t know how hard they can bite unless you make them aware of it. They’d try to be as rough with you as they are with other dogs, so you have to let them know where you draw the line. Ideally, you teach your dog not to bite you while playing at all, as was the case with my previous dog, a beagle. As Kira belongs to the slightly nuts race of Czechoslovakian wolfdogs, she just has to play bite you, because the experience would be only half as great without it, so she says. So ever since she was a puppy we showed her that ok, you can chew on our hands, but only gently. And so she does, with no marks left, except for her nasty saliva :D
And all of this only applies to games - she’s never tried to bite anyone, not even growl at anyone in any other situation.
