5 Oct 2006 SWMBO has bought a job lot of Fray Bentos Steak Pies at bargain price. Unfortunately we don't have an oven on board. How can we cook them [and get the pastry crispy]? We do have a pressure cooker and a double skillet, but the skillet has a non-stick surface so standing the tins on it would probably not

I can never get the bottom to cook. The undercooked base to the pastry is what makes Fray Bentos special no other pie in the world does that. . Excellent recipe, however How long do you have to leave it to soak in the oven for the bits to come off, I usually scrape all the bits off with a knife when serving
I'd like to pack a few Fray Bentos pies too but we'll be using an open fire, with wood as fuel, for most of the cooking. Would it be possible to we'll have a single electric ring too but I'm supposing you wouldn't be able to generate a high enough temperature to cook the pie properly with that. View last reply. 1.
