His older brother, the college student Tadashi, saves Hiro from a dangerous gang and brings him to his laboratory in the university to convince him to forget the fights. Tadashi shows his nurse robot Baymax that he is developing to Hiro and introduces his little brother to his friends Go Go Tomago, Wasabi, Honey Lemon and Fred. When Hiro meets his idol Professor Robert Callaghan, he decides to join the university. Hiro needs to invent something to attract the attention of Callaghan and he brings tiny robots called microbots that are useful for many applications to the science fair in the university. The entrepreneur Alastair Krei wants to buy the microbots but Hiro prefers to stay with Callaghan in the university. When Hiro and Tadashi leave the fair, there is a fire and Tadashi returns to the place to rescue Callaghan. However the building blows up and Tadashi dies. Later, Hiro activates Baymax and the robot follows the direction pointed out by the last microbot kept with Hiro. The boy chases Baymax and they come to an abandoned building. Hiro discovers that someone is producing microbots and they are attacked by a masked man who controls the microbots. They succeed to flee and Hiro decides to include armor and another chip in Baymax to make him a master in fights. They track the masked man down to the harbor but Go Go Tomago, Wasabi, Honey Lemon and Fred arrive summoned by Baymax. The masked man attacks the group and they team-up forming Big Hero 6, using armors and their skills, to capture the masked man that they believe is Alastair Krei. But they have a huge surprise.Spoilers!!
This is my first ever review on IMDb though I've been on it since its inception. Phew. I loved this movie. Loved it. Not just because I'm a mom to a 7 year old guy but also because I grew up in the 80s with all the kiddie sci-fi and horror and through the 90s digital immigrant movies. Like so many other reviews here, I wanna say, Big Hero 6 was awesome. It's like Toy Story without the honey, sticky stuff.
The kids nowadays don't need that and we adults, don't need kiddie stuff assaulting our mind in an animation even family ones. Big Hero 6 appeals to everybody. It was PG-13 in my country but the boys I took from ages 7-9 loved it and I laughed and cried with them.
I loved the fact that the girls in this movie were glorified as intelligent, butt-kicking, engineers but still girls who loved their girly stuff, this means a lot to me. Great role modelling for our daughters. And the boys were allowed to be scared, unsure, bad and emotional. This is also a great message.
The message was, people are people. Animation was awesome. Dialogues were intelligent, witty and funny without being corny or crude. Family element was wonderful and mostly, how the emphasis was on the main characters, Baymax and Hiro and not the villain. Even the villain had a good reason to be evil.
Watch it, love it, watch it again because that's what we're gonna do. And stop picking on the little things for once. I couldn't find anything to complain about at all. Absolute 10 for me!What I appreciated most about this movie was the setting, having neither been to San Fransisco nor Tokyo I cannot comment on if it is true to either of them - but I really liked the city and the culture that resulted from it.
You can hardly see the effect of the technological advances that has happened in this world, and because of this it feels like it's in the near future. As it is a movie for younger audiences, it is understandable that they want it to be easily relatable.
The parts of this movie that I did not like are probably some of the parts that the younger audiences will like the best. The Fred-character was partly delightful, but also "too much". The same with some of the moments in the film (like the suggestion given by one of the heroes in the last fight). Some of the motivations of the characters are also simplified so much that they are hard to understand.
If you are a comics geek, I recommend staying till after the credits!A melding of old and new modes of animation, in which the attentive artistry of the past coexists with the hyper-detailed, computer-generated present.John Lasseter is very supportive of the directors, and he won't force them to put out a sequel unless they have a story that [they're] really excited about. It has to feel like a story that really has to be told or deserves to be told. It can't just be cashing in on the success of a previous film.
In short, they have some interest in directing a sequel, but no story is being written so far. However, Disney stated that there would be Big Hero 6 The Series (2017) (2017) taking place after the movie. Only when the situation demands. While no specific reason to that is explained in the movie itself, it is however explained from the film crew that several characters such as Silver Samurai, Sunfire, etc. despite being part of the team in the original comic book couldn't appear in the movie due to copyright/licensing issues. A character named Yokai who uses and controls countless of Microbots.
