26 Nov 2014 Autofocus will continually search for something to focus on, even if the autofocus mode is turned to One Shot in the camera. This isn't easy on the eyes. You can also use autofocus and manual focus together to achieve a single image.
5 Nov 2013 The first thing to decide is whether you want to use autofocus or switch to manual focus. Autofocus offers two distinct modes, which you need to set on the camera. These are One-Shot AF (Canon)/Single-Servo AF (Nikon), and AI Servo AF (Canon)/Continuous-Servo AF (Nikon).
On both of the cases, the subject doesn't move so you can meticulously use manual focus. For event photographers, I think they will prefer to use autofocus and catch the moment :). 1) Auto Focus will not work without those focus points. In fact that is the purpose of those points, your camera has focus points so that it can focus FOR YOU.
