Instruction decoder. The instruction decoder of a processor is a combinatorial circuit sometimes in the form of a read-only memory, sometimes in the form of an ordinary combinatorial circuit. Its purpose is to translate an instruction code into the address in the micro memory where the micro code for the instruction starts.
The Instruction Decoder reads the next instruction in from memory, and sends the component pieces of that instruction to the necessary destinations. For each machine-language instruction, the control unit produces the sequence of pulses on each control signal line required to implement that instruction (and to fetch the
The instruction register has NOP detection, as described in the register article. IF NOP is detected, two relays are switched on to select instruction 1111xxxxxx in the basic instruction map. The first relay ensures that the basic set is always chosen (top circuit diagram). The second relay is placed behind the basic map decoder
Flip-flops are also used to generate the sequence of control signals needed to perform the functions defined by each instruction. These are contained within the decoder block (figure 1), the circuit diagram symbol form this component is shown in figure 23. Inside this component are the instruction decoding logic and

Anyone interested in really understanding my computer will need to study the drawings for these circuits. In many cases there is first a drawing showing the circuit at a more abstract
Instruction Decoders and Combinatorial Circuits The instruction decoder is arguably the most important part of a computer's CPU. Although the CPU is often thought of as little more than a glorified calculator in which arithmetic operations are done, such math work is actually the job of the Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU),
