When a scientist sent back to the prehistoric era strays off the path he causes a chain of events that alters history in disastrous ways.
2055, Charles Hatton has made a fortune by founding 'Time safari', which offers rich 'big game hunters' short time travels to kill off dinosaurs just before their natural death. When Travis notices the weather and wildlife are not behaving as usual, he consults Dr. Rand, the contractually invisible inventor of the supercomputer which controls the time travel. They soon face 'time waves', each worsening the effects in 2055 of evolutionary distortions, lower lifeforms first. They attempt to identify and rectify the past alteration, but each attempt gets harder in their distorted present.
I think people are often in too much of a hurry to condemn a film for their own reasons. I found this movie entertaining and well made. It is not one of the best of all time but for me , a wonderfully escapist treat. I am surprised at how harshly some people have judged it and wonder if they actually watched it completely at all. I am saddened by the negative comments on films sometimes , especially if the average viewer reads and follows the advice of the writer. In this case the creatures are believable, the suppositions plausible and the acting ... better than average. Grab a friend, some popcorn and this movie and I'm sure that you won't be disappointed.
I saw this movie in my 9th grade English class after we read the short story, and I didn't know how it would turn out. Ten minutes into the movie I knew that this would be an hour and a half I would never get back. Fortunately I wasn't forced to take notes on it or anything because I would've wrote down every bad thing about it, and there was a LOT of bad things about it.
First of all, if stepping on a butterfly changed the future, then why would they add a volcano about to explode that would kill it anyway? This movie made absolutely no sense and was an absolute insult to the original short story.
I also can see by the other comments that this cost $80 million dollars to make, and it mystifies me as to why the studio continued to poor money into this epic failure.
One redeeming feature of this picture is that it will make great fodder for those make-fun-of-the-movie TV shows.
