When a man (Robbins) believes he has discovered that his wife is having an affair with his boss, it sets off a chain reaction of events. First he wanders into a ghetto where a robber (Lawrence) tries to take his money at gunpoint, but instead sets a wild ride from California to Arizona. The two eventually become reluctant friends. Discussing robbery techniques, they decide to get back at the boss by robbing an office safe containing hundreds of thousands of dollars. Life is further complicated by another pair of robbers who chase the first two for infringing on their territory.
Nothing To Lose, with Martin Lawrence and Tim Robbins. Nick Beam (Robbins) has a bad day, and comes home early to surprise his wife. Nick is met with a nasty surprise when he sees his wife in bed with another man, who he finds out is his boss. Depressed and distraught, Nick leaves his house and drives for awhile. While in the city, bumbling thug Terrance Davidson (Lawrence) tries to car-jack him. Nick, feeling he has nothing to lose, takes Terrance for a fun ride, and begins their wacky adventure. It's a really funny movie...
Nothing to lose is a great comedy that has a real feel to it. Great great great! ****1/2 out of ***** !!!
I've read many positive reviews of this movie, but there's really nothing new here, comedically speaking. This is yet another comedy that resorts to violence, four-letter words, car chases and tired sight gags to get its laughs. It does get some of them, intermittently, but only thanks to the improvisations of its stars, though Martin Lawrence's specialized brand of comedy (he's like a broader Eddie Murphy) is certainly not to everyone's taste. However, the movie's serious side (about black unemployment) is interesting and well-handled - for a comedy. (**)
