41. Family ACROCERIDAE. By Evert I. Schlinger & Michael G. Jefferies he family Acroceridae (Cyrtidae olim) is cos- mopolitan, except for true oceanic islands, and contains 520 species in 3 subfamilies and 50 genera. ABSTRACT. Here we provide a checklist of the flies of the families Acroceridae, Mydidae and Therevidae on the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Acroceridae are represented in Brazil by 30 species, and only Philopota tuberculata Westwood is recorded for the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The three reported species of
"Four specimens of a distinctive new species of acrocerine fly are described as Ogcodes exotica, preserved in Oligo-Miocene amber of the Dominican Republic. The fossil species appears most closely related to several Old World species of Ogcodes, based on distinctive, clavate hind tibiae and tergal mounds (structure of
The dipterous parasitoids and predators of spiders are restricted to a few families of. Diptera and vary considerably in their mode of action. Members of the families Droso- philidae, Phoridae, Chloropidae, and Sarcophagidae are known to predate on eggs of several families of spiders (Clausen 1940; Eason et al. 1967).

The family Acroceridae belongs to the primitive Diplera Brachycera. Thc flics are relatively small. but can easily be recognized by the very large compound eyes and the globose thorax and abdomen. Larvae of all species arc parasitoids of spiders or spider eggs. Flies of this family are rarely collected and. therefore, poorly.
Abstract. Sixteen specimens of Acroceridae, representing three species, gathered by Malaise traps and hand netting in the Parco Nationale del10 Stelvio - Stilfserjoch National Park in South Tyrol (Italy) have been studied. Although not recorded in this study but originally described from this locality, the taxon Acroceva
The Acroceridae are a small family of odd-looking flies. They have a hump-backed appearance with a strikingly small head, generally with a long proboscis for accessing nectar. They are rare and not widely known. The most frequently applied common names are small-headed flies or hunch-back flies. Many are bee or
8 Sep 2011 Abstract. In this paper we describe two new genera of philopotine Acroceridae: Schlingeriella irwini gen. et sp. n. (New Caledonia) and Quasi fisheri gen. et sp. n. (Mexico). The Baltic amber species Eulonchiella eocenica. Meunier, 1912 is rediagnosed and a neotype designated based on a newly
