The chaotic aftermath of an alien attack has left most of the world completely incapacitated. In the six months since the initial invasion, the few survivors have banded together outside major cities to begin the difficult task of fighting back. Each day is a test of survival as citizen soldiers work to protect the people in their care while also engaging in an insurgency campaign against the occupying alien force.
The series tells the story of the aftermath of a global invasion by several races of extraterrestrials that neutralizes the world's power grid and technology, quickly destroys the combined militaries of all the world's countries, and apparently kills over 90% of the human population within a few days.
I'm a big fan of sci-fi shows and movies. The last good show was Firefly and even then that wasn't perfect, but it had more character development and better writing than Falling Skies.
Falling Skies is a show which you really want to DVR instead of watching it live. You will find that the dialog is terrible, flat and boring. I am constantly skipping over those portions and getting to the action scenes (which are starting to become questionable too).
I liked the special effects, but that is about it. The storyline is nothing new and is only a rehash of every thing else you have ever watched sci-fi related material. I'm actually predicting the next shows before they happen (which reminds me of The Event, are the writers from that show now here? Please don't let that be true!).
This show isn't going to last if they continue using the same formula for creativity. They might get two seasons out of it.

I recently watched the two hour end of season finale.
(yawn)
Given that there are 15 minutes of commercials in a typical 1 hour show, this series has 20 minutes of commercials.
I DVR'd the final two hours. Watched 10 minutes, tops. I ran it at double and some times triple speed because it is still very, very predictable. Jesus. Who are these writers?
The show took a dramatic turn for the worse the last three episodes.
I got three questions for you...
High School? Smelter? Advanced alien metals?
This show could have had so much more going for it. I actually feel sorry for the cast because the writing is so bad.
Kudos to the director who actually does a half way good join of making the fight scenes worth watching, but that gets really old really quick.
I downgraded my vote from 3 to a 1 even though there are some parts of the show which are actually interesting.
I hope this series makes it (gets better), but it won't.

OK. Last week they had Karen return to the camp as a "discarded drone". Dummy ex-boyfriend picks her up, takes her back to the camp. HUH? How long has this guy been fighting the aliens? WTH?
So he comes back to camp and no one seems to object? But they did when Ben came back and he lives ever day with people looking at him like he is death itself.
Instead, they bring back Karen and every one is like super supportive, even sympathetic. HUH?
What is wrong with these writers? They are real idiots.
So last night they catch a "fish" commander and I'm thinking to myself, huh? what sloppy writing. obviously none of these writers know any thing about combat or real combat strategy.
How do you think that the humans were able to sneak up on the fish, the skitters and the mechs? WTF? What? No air support? No scanners? No highly sensitive noses on the skitters or "Karen" that would enable them to tell they were nearby?
Also, Karen claims to be able to predict the outcome of events, sort of like predicting the future. Yet, this never occurred to them that the father would want to recover his son?
Oh and let us not forget... how the hell did the humans get to the location of the "fire fight" so quickly? Ben and Karen must have had at least a 10 minute head start. So you say they used motorcycles? Any one been around those 250cc off road bikes? One word for you...

You could be a mile away and still hear the high pitched sound of one of those cycles. They sounds like a cat stuck in a blender.
Also how did the humans know which direction to go?????? What? They find footsteps and then take the time to actually track them? Any one actually track animals before? How fast do you move? It's called "slow moving".
And one other thing about that entire scene...
WHO THE HELL FIRES A SNIPER RIFLE FROM THAT RANGE? They were so close to the skitter that they could have shot it with a pistol. WTF?
These writers are absolutely horrendous.
I'm done with this crap.
Wait a year for season 2? Sorry, I won't be back unless: 1)There's a lot less dialogue and a lot more action. 2)There's a lot less "soap opera" to the show.
(There are too many sub-plots.) 3)Tom grows a pair.
(All three of his sons are better men than he is.)
And stop acting like he's still doing the "Librarian". 4)Weaver stops acting like he's the smartest tactician on the planet.
(He was a construction boss prior to the "arrival".) 5)They get some more "actors".
(There are only two now. Will Patton and Noah Wyle.)

What's the thing Tom was talking to? Who said "the enemy of my enemy is my friend?" A new Race? My take is that mechs are more efficient from a production standpoint. Less moving parts require less material and less energy to operate. They are machines (mostly at least) and therefore have the same economy of scale as any other machine. Then again, this is sci-fi where there are no limits. Well it looks like they finally threw in a reference to an new alien in the last few episodes, that the Volm acknowledged was the species that was earlier enslaved to become the Skitters. I'm pretty sure the producers just threw than in at the end to make this question go away. a5c7b9f00b
