Instructionism refers to a collection of educational practices that are teacher-focused, skill-based, product-oriented, non-interactive, and highly prescribed (Jonassen, 1996).

Constructionist learning is when learners construct mental models to understand the world around them. Constructionism advocates student-centered, discovery learning where students use information they already know to acquire more knowledge. Students learn through participation in project-based learning where they
fact that neither teaching nor learning are always intentional, i.e. conscious and premeditated. In the (fictive) example described here, the concept of teaching and learning at issue is one informed by the theory of instructionism. Instructionism is based on an assumption that learning is receptive, i.e. is absorbed passively.
