One can follow these instructions from NickN over at SimForums. Very informative and helpful information. Here is an excerpt from his thread - which gets right to the meat and bones, but I would suggest that you follow the guides of his tweaking bible. There are many other good tweaking sources available from a few good
Video Card Settings: I left my Nvidia Panel settings at the default (Let the application decide) and didn't customize any of the settings. . NickN's "SETTING UP FSX and HOW TO TUNE IT" are 40 pages (I needed to print out to use) of easy to follow instructions that now have me Flying instead of Tweaking.

21 Sep 2014 First, I can't say enough about the awesome guide titled “The FSX Computer System: The Bible – By NickN". It is recommended that Antialiasing - Mode be set to Application-controlled under Global Settings. This will . Note that disabling CUDA support also disables GPU accelerated PhysX - see the PhysX setting later in the guide.
19 Sep 2010 If you use ATi there is nothing I can suggest for you as they will require unsanctioned hacked shader files to run heavy weather and other scenery situations. After installing any Nvidia driver and a reboot, you DO NOT NEED TO OPEN the Nvidia control panel for anything D3D and game settings related.
system (even with the exact same configurations such as BIOS settings, Windows, FSX.cfg, Nvidia settings). Guides, such as NickN's, AVSIM's, xxxxx's, Bojote's are just that. Guides. We can suggest what we think are great settings but don't expect them to work well with your computer and FSX-SE setup.
10 May 2013 Honestly, before you try any guide, all I would do is add the highmemfix="1" under the GRAPHICS section of your cfg and adjust video settings to how you want in inspector (or AMD catalyst). Nick N still has decent recommended settings for inspector (nvidia). FAA DLH ATCT PPL ASEL |Win7 x64 | Gigabyte
