What MTF do I need to use? gear oil? atf?? I am wanting to run the royal purple syncromax I keep reading a lot about but it seems that it need to have the correct color of sticker on my tranny to be able to run it? I dont want to put it in and the tranny actually need a heavy gear oil and ruin something.

Awesome, turns out there is a drain and fill hole, just need to find out how much of what kind of oil I need. EDIT: googled e39 manual transmission oil capacity and found a bloody link of how to do it didn't I ah well, turns out it is lifetime fluid but you can replace it. bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/189240
I don't think you could possibly put 8 qts of gear oil in the m5's manual trans. Mike, you are a gentleman. I would have assumed something more nefarious was at work. I know from personal experience that the E39 M5 six-speed transmission can be filled with just shy of 2 qts. of fluid. Regards, Dick Roberts.
