transmission fluid - i would like to know which type of tranny fluid to use. also where do you add the fluid to the truck. i have the transmission dipstick

I was misinformed (by the dealer no less) that there was no listed OEM suggested fluid for my '91 dakota's manual transmission. I used ATF +3. I just read in the Haynes manual that regular 10W30 engine oil is the suggested fluid. Can someone tell me if this is going to be a problem? I would think that ATF

I have a 96 Dakota Sport with a 3.9L V6 2WD 5-speed manual with 120,000 miles on it. In 3rd gear between 2000 and 3000 RPMs and in forth gear between 1500 and 2500 RPMs, there is a slight shutter. Now the transmission shifts really nice and the clutch is fine. I am thinking that I need a fluid change.
14 Feb 2011 At the bottom of the carpet or right at the top of release? If it's really down near the carpet then make sure nothing is obstructing fluid disengagement. If it's worse on a cold mornings but better after the transmission oil heats up then change your fluid using Redline MTL and get some Syncromesh from Amsoil.
