Life finally feels good for Peter Parker. He has managed to balance life as both Spider-Man and as Mary Jane's boyfriend. He is even planning on proposing to MJ. But life isn't always going to be easy for the webbed hero. Harry Osborn still hasn't forgiven Peter for the death of his father. He has developed the perfect technology and crowns himself the 'New Goblin'. Harry isn't the only problem. It is revealed that an escaped convict, Flint Marko is the real killer of Peter's uncle. After an accident, he is now the invincible 'Sandman', who has teamed up with Venom to target the superhero, who is struggling to handle his life.
After Mary Jane and Peter Parker have confessed their love for one another, we start things off with them happier than ever. Spider-Man is still doing what he does best - saving the world. Mary Jane is the star of a great Broadway show. However, through all the silver linings, Harry is still blaming Peter for killing his father. After multiple attempts at trying to reason with him and patch things up, Harry finally confronts Peter and they engage in a brutal battle leaving Harry with temporary amnesia. During this time Peter encounters a symbiote, which attaches itself to his Spidey suit. After awhile Peter can feel a difference in his behavior (more aggressive) but as well his powers are amplified. Struggling to save his relationship with Mary Jane he removes the suit using the bells of the church and the suit finally grabs hold of Eddie Brock. Eddie was currently praying Peter would be killed for all the embarrassment that Peter's caused him. Not a minute too soon, Peter gets back to normal, but seems to have lost Mary Jane - and what's worse is she is held captive by Venom and Sandman - who have seem to have join forces. After realizing this, Peter asks Harry for help, but is declined since Harry has gotten his memory back. As Peter goes to face both villains, Harry is told the truth about his father and decides to help Spider-Man. The final battle comes down to Harry and Spider-Man against Venom and Sandman. Who will win?
I was worried about Spider-Man 3. It looked as though the series might have taken a wrong turn and start heading down the path as the old Batman Series did after Batman Returns. It looked as though to much might have been crammed into this film, with to little amount of time. There is the Goblin story, plus the Sandman, and the story everyone has been waiting for, Venom.
I can honestly say I was mistaken, and seeing as my expectations were so low, Spider-man 3 actually pleasantly surprised me. If this truly is the last film, which rumors are flying that it might be, but we know how that works, then Spider-man 3 has a nice wrap up story. In Star Wars terms, Spider-man 3 is the series Return Of The Jedi, while Spider-Man 2 is the Empire Strikes Back.
taking place a few years after Spider-man 2, Peter parker (Tobey Mcguire) and Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst) are madly in love. M.J. is now in a Broadway musical, and it seems that the people of New York are ignoring The Daily Bugle and coming to love and appreciate Spider-Man for the hero that he is.
Enter Flint Marko, and escapade convict, who come to find out is the real person who killed Peter's uncle Ben. While Flint (Thomas Hayden Church) is on the run he enters a molecular testing site and becomes "living" sand due to an accident. Turns out Marko is a crook with a "heart" and only commits his crimes to get money to cure his daughters disease, which is never explained.
Then comes Harry Osbourne (James Franco, son of Norman the original Green Goblin, who wants Peter dead for Spider-man killing his father, a death that was a mishap on Norman's part, that Harry does not know about. Harry tries to get at Peter through messing with his head. The Harry Osbourne story in my opinion was the weakest sub-plot in Spider-Man 3.
Then along comes the character every Spider-Man fan has been waiting for Venom. While making out with Mary Jane in a giant web, he misses a comet fall to earth (I'd still like to know how that happens) and from the comet comes the black ooze that bonds to peter and makes him more darker and evil (almost like the awful Superman III). The new "black" costume, made up of this ooze gives Peter enhanced strength, however he finds himself inching closer to "the dark side" like Luke in Jedi.
Spider-Man 3 makes up something that has been rarely seen in Hollywood since the original Star Wars trilogy, a good trilogy. Now a lot of comic book die hards will complain about the continuity issue with the Sandman being uncle Ben's real killer, but I was able to over look that. My big complaints about the film was an over the top song and dance number and I wish Venom spoke like he speaks in the comic, calling himself "we" and "us".
Regardless Spiser-man 3 was fun. That's something I'm glad Hollywood has got back into making. Movies that are fun, you just check your brain at the door, and get lost in the film. That's what was great about the other 2 Spider-Man films. Spidr-man 3 is a good ending, there is no need for Spider-man 4, but then again this is Hollywood.
Spiderman 3 doesn't out-do the original but its still a worthy enjoyable action flick. We see more then one villain in this installment, the Green Goblin returns, The Sandman makes his debut and the Venom enters the mysterious world of Spiderman. But, the movie has its down-falls, one of them its utterly failing cheesy effects. It was those scenes that made me give this movie a mediocre rating, it wasn't funny nor enjoyable to watch, it was totally inappropriate and not needed and tends to get plenty of negative attention. But, the rest is good; nice action, a good in-depth plot, and some very suspenseful scenes.
What saves Spider-Man 3 from becoming well, "Superman III," is the fact that it's still a solid film that packs a punch when it comes to turn on the spectacle.
Another answer can be like a reference to the 1994's Spiderman: The Animated Series, when he accidentally found the weak of the Symbiote in a fight with Shocker in the "The Alien Costume" saga. The answer is twofold; Eddie worked for the daily bugle and thus likely found out about Marko's escape and motives as the bugle was covering it. He then bonds with the Symbiote which retains its memories of its time bonded with Peter including the fight in the subway. Eddie Brock Jr. could have been brought back for a sequel or spinoff (but hasn't and won't). Additionally, the Symbiote is still alive in a couple places—remember that Dr. Connors still has a piece of the Symbiote. It is widely believed that the Symbiote that Connors has will eventually bond with the yet-to-be-introduced character of Cletus Kasady to form Carnage, as was the case in the comics that Carnage was created in Venom's wake. It was announced in July 2008 that there was Venom spinoff in early pre-production that would follow Spider-Man 3 (but seemingly it was cancelled with the discontinuation of the main movie series). Topher Grace possibly would not have returned for the role, as there had been several other hosts to the Venom Symbiote in the comics that could be used in a solo film, including the short lived Angelo Fortunato, and the Scorpion aka "Mac" Gargan. Eddie Brock, meanwhile, had the bits of Symbiote left over in his blood bond to his white blood cells, giving him a new white Venom-like suit. Along with a more altruistic attitude, Brock calls himself Anti-Venom. A potential spinoff could have followed either of these plots. (Source: here.) Ultimately the fates of the characters in the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man continuity is unknown, and similar is the case with the later Andrew Garfield Spider-Man reboot continuity, since the movie franchise was rebooted one more time shortly thereafter. The song playing during Peter's street-dancing scene was "People, Get up, and Drive Your Funky Soul" by James Brown. It is an edited version, though, since the original was nine minutes long and was featured on James Brown's 1988 album Motherlode. This version is two minutes and 24 seconds. Possibly never. It is still unknown at this time when or if it will be released. It is also unknown what the running time would be. Sam Raimi has not made any statements about a Director's Cut, although Columbia has been known to release extended director's cuts on DVD for other titles in the past, including Spider-Man 2.1. However, note that Columbia may no longer have the relevant rights (such as post-production in addition to distribution) to the Spider-Man cinema franchise, as the underlying copyright (or license) has gone from Columbia's control to Sony's and then to Marvel Studios'. The movie studios are unlikely to work out a deal, especially if it wouldn't be mutually profitable. If a Director's Cut home video release is ever made of this movie, it is likely to be called Spider-Man 3.1. Had a "3.1" DVD been made then it would have likely to been released to coincide with the theatrical release of the reboot movie The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) just like when the "2.1" DVD came out to coincide with the theatrical release of Spider-Man 3. But the odds of this had always been slim, given that The Amazing Spider-Man was the start of a new series. Had Spider-Man 4 been released in 2011, the studio probably would have released it as a Spider-Man 3.1 then. When the film was completed, the running time was set at 156 minutes on the IMDb page, then later reduced to 139 minutes. Therefore, about 17 minutes was cut from the final film. Note: Richard Roeper & Christy Lemire's review of the film presented the 156-minute running time on screen, but it is no longer available online. On a Sony Pictures discussion board thread archived here There was going to be a fourth movie but the studio eventually scrapped it in favor of a reboot. It was ultimately cancelled coming down to a combination of Sam Raimi and Sony Pictures not agreeing on an antagonist or villain for the film and Raimi hating the concocted storyline for the fourth film. Perhaps there was a way to save "Spider-Man 4"; but just as likely the studio folks tried all they could but to no avail, and it would've cost too much money had they kept on trying to agree on a villain or got more writers to draft the story. a5c7b9f00b
