Fodor's Travel: A stalwart of travel publishing, Fodor's has been producing good basic European guidebooks for American travelers since the 1930s. Their coverage is Rough Guides: This British series is written by Europeans who understand the contemporary social scene better than most American writers. While their
15 May 2001 I seem unable to part with any of them, beginning with the Fodor's guide to Germany that accompanied me on my honeymoon in 1966 and Frommer's . like Lonely Planet, for a resourceful and independent-minded clientele, the Rough Guides number 140 titles, including the Mini Rough Guides to large
8 Nov 2005 I like Rough Guides for background and historical information, they are more in depth than most. I'll take out Fodor's and Frommer's because my local library usually carries them, and I can use them to cross reference hotel recommendations with other guide books and websites. Rough Guide: I used the Rough Guide to West Africa, in lieu of Lonely Planet. Maybe not so good on the map score, but I found the music section and other cultural snippets more worthwhile than some of the Fodor's: I've seen people carrying Fodor's Guides around Europe and the States, but I've never used one myself.

Fodor updated their principal South American guidebooks in 2014 and 2015, which means their Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru books are relatively
10 Feb 2010 All travel guide books are not created equal! Ever get your hands on a shiny new guide book to find out that it might be more tailored to singles when you're traveling with your family? Or maybe you're tired of spending hours in the travel section of Barnes and Noble when all you really need a detailed map?
29 May 2016 Both Lonely Planet and Fodor’s have been around for decades, but it’s time to decide which guidebook deserves that coveted space in your travel bag. Lonely Planet travel guides cost around $22 for city/small area guides, and $25 to $30 for country guides. Fodor’s travel
