Food-based dietary guidelines (also known as dietary guidelines) are intended to establish a basis for public food and nutrition, health and agricultural policies and nutrition education programmes to foster healthy eating habits and lifestyles.
The challenge ahead is to devise strategies that will both ameliorate undernutrition due to poverty and prevent diet related chronic noncommunicable diseases. Based on WHO/FAO dietary guidelines, Food Based Dietary Guideline (FBDG) is therefore recommended as part of this preventive strategies.
