An optimal build would maximize Intelligence at character creation. Take one point away from a "dump stat" (usually Charisma, as it barely affects gameplay outside of Hardcore mode's companions), and place it in Endurance. For traits, take Good Natured. started playing Fallout New Vegas but i am wondering what are the different kinds of starting stats that determine what sort of character you become? i know there are several which determine what kind of shooter you are, but i was wondering whats good for normal mode, and whats good for hardcore?
I have to point out that for new vegas, unlike fallout 3, INT is a very poor stat to put many points in. You only get 1/2 a skill point per level for each INT, and 2 points of medicine, science, and repair. With the "educated" perk at level 4 you get 2 additional skill points per level, the only perks worth taking that

The other guides Charisma is the dump stat of Fallout: New Vegas. It isn't hard to make a strong character in New Vegas, and even this will depend on your playstyle.
