The 2012 Mazda 3 i Touring Skyactiv melds the 3's excellent chassis and interior with better fuel economy. Read the review and see photos at Car and Driver. forfeits 1 mpg in both cycles to the automatic. It still achieves a lofty 27 mpg city/39 mpg highway rating, though, up from 25/33 with a five-speed manual in 2011.
But the good folks at Mazda sure do, and the refreshed Mazda 3 is proof. The 3 tested here was a top-of-the-line Grand Touring hatchback model fitted with the only engine available with that trim—a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated inline-four—and a six-speed manual transmission
