SL is an acronym for Super Light.
When it comes to bikes, light is a good thing.
Super Light is a great thing!
Climbing speed, acceleration rates and attaining maximum speeds is all about power to weight ratios. The more power you have and the less combined weight of the rider and his bike equates to a faster ride.
Ever wondered why the Tour de France riders are so skinny? For exactly this reason. if they weigh 60kg and their bike weighs 7 and they are able to produce, say 600 watts of power, logically they will climb faster than an opponent of equal power who is even 1kg heavier. The professionals express this data as watts per kilogram.
For those of us who haven't the discipline, motivation or physiology to be as light as a pro rider, the best option is to train as much as possible to maximise our power output, then ride a bike that is as light as is safe and sensible or as light as we can afford.
The Giant TCR Advanced SL 0, is a bike not too dissimilar to that of the Pros. A Super Light Carbon frame, carbon handlebars, carbon head stem, carbon wheels and a Shimano Dura Ace Di2 ensemble.
The main difference between us and the Pro rider, apart from the watts per kilogram, will be that he gets his bike supplied where we need to pay for our own!
When it comes to measuring performance, usually just finishing in front of your mates is sufficient, but the new TCR Advanced SL 0 comes with its own inbuilt Power Meter, so you can confirm that it is your superior power that is the reason for your climbing and sprinting form!
Modern bikes with their stiff frames really enhance all aspects of the ride. They accelerate quicker, corner better and climb faster all thanks to the inbuilt stiffness provided by oversized frame sections and careful placement of additional layers of carbon fibre. As a pioneer in carbon frame construction and the market leader today, Giant bikes share all these attributes, providing the rider with the maximum advantage. For more details please visit
