Disc brakes have really made an impact in the road bike market, being readily available on many bikes throughout the Giant range.
Bikes in the upper range, such as this 2019 TCR Advanced SL 1 typically are fitted with the superior hydraulic option, rather than the cheaper, but less efficient mechanical style. In addition to superior braking performance, another advantage is that lighter hand pressure is required on the brake lever.
Another modern component that has made a big impact is electronic gear shifting, known as Di2. Shimano Ultegra Di2 is extremely reliable, easy to maintain, smooth and efficient to operate and really does make riding a pleasure.
The combination of hydraulic disc brakes along with Di2 shifting is of particular benefit to riders with smaller hands or who may have an injury or strength deficiency, but even a rider with larger hands will appreciate the ease of shifting and braking.
Extremely lightweight, the TCR Advanced SL 1 disc is ready to race. It's up to you whether it's down Beach Road or at a local event with a number on your back.
