Why is it that the girl in black gets everyone’s temper, when the girl in a tight mini skirt gets everyone’s praise? Why is it that the girl that keeps mostly to herself gets more negative attention than the girl who sells her virginity? Why does everyone keep criticizing the girl who dresses how she wants, not how Hollister, Abercrombie, or any other stores want her to, but the girl that’s a mindless clone of the human race gets complimented on her clothes when they’re exactly the same as the girl beside her? Why does the “emo” girl get picked on because of scars on her arms or the music she listens to? That “emo” girl has probably gone through more than that “cool” girl could ever even imagine. That girl in black has enough stress and baggage on her plate and doesn’t need people calling her “emo”, “poser”, “attention-seeking”, and plenty of other names. You can laugh at the “emo” all you want, but she has more individuality and self-respect than you and your “cool” group of friends could ever dream of. Don’t criticize the “emo” until you know the silent battle she’s been fighting, Don’t call her names until you’ve felt her pain. Don’t laugh at her until you’ve reached the about of braveness that “emo” has reached. Brave is not sky diving, giving a speech, or dumping your boyfriend. Brave is going to school and dressing how you want and not how others want you to, no matter how much you get criticized. Brave is struggling through a day of taunting and battles, it’s getting up in the morning, despite how much you don’t want to because of the problems you face each day, and going to bed that night still alive. Brave is overcoming people and their cruelty, and still being willing to keep living each day as it comes. That “emo” is brave, braver than you could ever dream… And you with your “cool” friends have no clue.
