this is similar to what my grandmother makes, without the mushrooms and bacon fat instead of butter. to save time use 1 whole head of cabbage, 2 large onions.
Cook bacon until it is crisp. Set aside to cool. Grate or blend cabbage. Add cabbage to the same pan you fried the bacon in. Leave in the bacon fat. Fry cabbage.
INGREDIENTS: half a head of cabbage; 3 tablespoons of lard or oil or the fat rendered from 4 strips of good bacon (from a Hungarian butcher); 1 tbsp salt; 1 tsp.
