Amateur boxer, Ajay Mehra return home only to learn that his elder brother, Ashok is missing. His searches and a police complaint only leads to frustration and violence outburst. Eventually Ashok's dead body is found and Ajay is charged with killing him as well as having an illicit relationship with his sister in law Indu. Then Ajay along with three other inmates escape from jail in order to punish the real culprit, Balwant Rai.
Ajay Mehra lives with his elder brother Ashok and sister-in-law Indu. He leaves for Bangalore in order to train to become an international boxer. On his return to New Delhi, he finds that Ashok is missing. He lodges a complaint at the police station but to no avail. He decides to search for his brother himself but still does not find him. Later on, Ashok's body is found and Ajay is accused of killing him as well as having an illicit relationship with his sister-in-law. While in jail, Ajay makes friends with some other hardcore convicts, who are good at heart. Then one day, they escape the jail by overpowering the guards. Ajay only has one thing on his mind: to kill Balwant Rai, a wealthy, powerful and corrupt businessman who had used Ashok's business as a front for his illegal activities. Ajay's new friends and his love interest Varsha, a journalist, help him in his mission.
Sunny Deol in 1980's used to be mostly too sober and people called him non actor though he gave good perf in ARJUN and DACAIT He got many flops In fact there were no takers for this film cos Sunny starred in it and it was also RKS's first film
The movie is a typical Hindi action film which is done to death but RKS's handling gave it a new edge
The film successfully dealt with the way Sunny changes to an action hero The initial portions are ordinary but when the focus shifts to Raj Babbar getting kidnapped things get better The entire angle of Sunny trying hard to find out his brother is brilliantly handled The turning point when Raj Babbar dies and the subsequent courtroom drama is well handled and the film keeps you involved till the end
Direction by RKS is good, after this he made films like GHATAK and DAMINI with Sunny amongst which DAMINI gave Sunny a national award Music is decent
Sunny Deol acts very well in this film and though he started shouting in every film post this, and kept playing same characters later this role has an edge he does a great job in his role Meenaxi is adequate in a smaller role Om Puri excels, Amrish Puri is restrained in a negative role while Raj Babbar is okay the rest are okay
This movie was probably last original bollywood action film. The Actors are tremendous, One of Sunny Deol's best performance if not the best. This movie marked the end of an Action Era in Bollywood, which was ruled by actors such as Amitabh, Sunny, Sanjay and Anil and many others before love stories of late 90's caught the attention such as Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and DDLJ and many more. Sunny Deol is brilliant in this film and so is Amrish Puri who sadly passed away last year, and will missed by billions of Indians. The confrontation of Sunny and Amrish Puri is amazing...acting at its best. Sunny won National Award for this film. If you want to know bollywood inside and out I highly recommend this movie, not the movies that are being shown today, most of the today's movies are either have the same story or a remake of a Hollywood movie. This movie is a must watch movie!!!
