Happy Valentine Day!!
How is everybody?
It’s been over a month since I wrote here and I apologize for keeping you waiting for so long.
All sorts of things have been happening since this year began.
I’ve also been amazingly busy and haven’t felt so great either.
Altogether I didn’t have much time to write…sorry!
Since January 5 I’ve been constantly working on recording for the LUNA SEA album
that will go on sale in March.
We’ve also been involved in hellish editing for the three live DVDs that will go on sale in the same month,
and these things alone are about all I can handle.
In the midst of these circumstances and as I mentioned before,
my dear friend Mick Karn – the world’s foremost fretless bassist – passed away.
I hurriedly took a break from recording and flew to London for his funeral.
It was a small, modest funeral in the rain with close friends and family only.
I’m incredibly lonely now that he’s gone,
but more than that I feel as if I might break down thinking of his wife and young son who have lost Mick.
I strongly feel that I want to continue to support the family of my irreplaceable friend in the future,
and I also keenly feel that we who have been left behind must do our best to make use of the life we have.
We need to share his works, sounds, and existence with many people in the future.
I also want to inherit the things he has done.
While I was in London for Mick’s funeral, I learned of the death of a friend from my hometown.
He was one of my inseparable band friends since we were in high school,
and was the previous vocalist before RYUICHI during the LUNACY era.
Together we had been fighting to expand his company when it happened.
In some ways I’m used to suddenly hearing of someone’s death, but it was still a shock.
When I returned from London I went immediately to my hometown and attended his funeral.
Of course, the members of LUNA SEA were there as well.
I met with friends from my hometown who I haven’t seen in a long time,
and it was very sad to think that I only see them at such times.
I returned to the studio that evening and starting recording again,
but I wasn’t exactly in a mental state to be able to concentrate on music.
Yet immersing myself in music might have been the best stabilizer for me.
Lately all sorts of troublesome problems have been successively cropping up
such as those related to music, work, and my private life.
My concentration has been disturbed and these problems have interfered with what I need to do.
Of course I need to take care of all these problems, but honestly I’m a bit exhausted.
Last night we did trackdown for Dress Code: Black Gig until 9 in the morning.
But even in this stormy situation the work we make has a pretty good sense,
and that might be the only thing giving me salvation right now.
We’ve finished most of the work for our first album consisting of covers of our own songs
and are currently mastering it.
We’ve poured as much energy as we are currently capable of into these songs
which have come back to life after 20 years,
and they have been reborn with a truly intense sound.
I think it turned out to be a truly fantastic, undeniable rock album.
We’re also working on three different DVDs at the same time
: the 12/24 Tokyo Dome performance, the 12/25 Dress Code: Black Gig,
and a documentary of our world tour.
Each one looks like it will be a work with a great deal of potential.
At the same time we’ve been working on these things,
I’ve also been involved in a hell of promotion for various works.
A lot of time is being taken up by photo shoots, interviews, checking, meetings, and other things.
They’re of course all important, but I think I might have reached my limit of concentration…
In addition, I’ve also been recording new songs that are also scheduled to be released as my solo work
in March as well.
As always they are totally cool electro tunes, so I hope you’re looking forward to them.
In any case, the present situation is quite intense
but I’m somehow living thanks to the salvation of the music we are creating.
I hope to use these works as an opportunity to see you all as soon as possible.
