Kenji Koiso, an eleventh grade math genius, agrees to take a summer job at the Nagano hometown of his crush, Natuski. When he arrives, he finds that her family have reunited to celebrate the 90th birthday of the family matriarch. His job is to pretend to be Natsuki's fiancé. Meanwhile, his attempt to solve a mathematical equation causes a parallel world's collision with earth.
A student tries to fix a problem he accidentally caused in OZ, a digital world, while pretending to be the fiancé of his friend at her grandmother's 90th birthday.
My main problem with this movie-anime was the whole Oz thing. I was kind of confused on what it was and how it worked. For what I gathered, it was an international internet base that controlled every aspect of the everyday life. So, everyone was depending on it without realising it, until a virus takes over and then everything gets out of control. I liked the concept of tradition and family bonds managing to effect even the technological, cyber world. And, due to the Oz thing, there was a lot of action in this movie. However, it still felt a little odd, as the cyber battles were presented like real ones. Other than that, the concept was nice and the characters interesting, though they never were explored in depth. Another thing that bothered me was that the final battle took too long. After the hero won, the virus always found a way to take control again, and it seemed like they would never win over. So, 4 out of 10.
It was actually a pretty good, interesting and watchable movie. The animation is good, the funimation dub from the voice actors were good and I got to hear new voice actors who I had never heard of before.
At first I actually though by the trailer that it was going to be a cheesy Disney anime moving because of Kenji's first avatar's had Mickey Mouse like ears but I was wrong.
Anyways I am not going to spoil any plots or events but it was a good movie.
There's a lovely, unhurried quality to Mr. Hosoda's storytelling, which nicely matches the clean, classically composed images of his outer story.
