David Haller is a patient in a mental hospital. He has been there for several years now and life is pretty much uneventful. Then one day a new patient, beautiful Syd, arrives and he is immediately smitten by her. Little does he realise how his life is about to be turned upside and him discover special powers that he never knew he had.

Well, this is a first, I actually gave 10 for the first time ever on IMDb! And written one of my first "reviews"! (only second actually) This is for me the best show of the season so far, the one I get myself spoiled on in the morning because I cannot wait to know what follows (not being in the "right" time zone) and if I do get why some people will not get past the 1st episode, complicated as it might seem, I myself find the week too long between each episode, humpf...
I've just watched the last episode of season 1 and find myself in a profound sadness of having to wait a hiatus long before retrieving this amazing show.
The photography and aesthetic, the music, the characters, the acting (Bill Irwin, I am ashamed I did not know you before, you're my new hero!... and I've since watched all I can find on Youtube), and Dan Stevens's voice! That show made me watch "Downton Abbey", which I resisted so far. I knew Stevens from "The Guest" but did not realized he had this sort of acting in him, his voice and intonations being a great part of the performance. I will now sure follow his career, his acting in Legion being for me worthy of an Emmy, all the aspects of the characters being expressed with subtlety and spot on, you just know when he's the good or the bad guy, but he still makes you wonder if you're actually right. This is very difficult to express but Stenvens just got to me... I'm even gonna go see "Beauty and the Beast" because of him for *** sake, this is how good this guy is in Legion!
This show might seem weird, but the story line is actually quite simple, some guy with powers is high-jacked by an entity who made him feel that he was schizophrenic (but isn't he really?), a group of other super-humans help him control his powers to, in the end, help him get rid of this entity.
It is just that, for the main story, but the way it is presented, and the little twists in between, are just a pleasure to watch, and feel. The dance scene on a Gainsbourg song in the first episode was what made me think this was really a show to stick with. The representation of the Shadow King was another reason, very simple but soooooo scary. Lenny was just intriguing at first, then became so much more than that. Oliver... Well, Oliver is I hope gonna become one of the main points of attention for season two, this guy in his 70's outfit and manners is THAT great.
So please, if you though the first episode was too complicated/out of there/weird for you, try the second one and hang on til the end of the season, I've been saying that to a lot of people so far, and actually did not get as many positive reactions as I hoped because of the out-of-order first episode, but this really is a show you do not want to miss, to the point that, after many many years on IMDb, I find myself writing a "review" (if this can be called a review), just because I really LOVE this show and want as many people as possible to have the same experience as I had! Yep, it is THAT GOOD.
This series is quite exceptional. In both departments: the cinematography and the story department. But I have to tell you: the pilot wasn't that great. It's rather bland indeed if you compare it to what follows. My personal advice: just skip episode 1 and start with episode 2. You won't miss much and get a better picture of what the series is really about. You'll thank me later, trust me.
Oddly enough I'm a comic book collector so I am quite familiar with Legion as a superhero. I never in a million years thought they would create a series that is based on the origin story of Legion but here we are. And it is quite awesome if I say so. I hope they'll make a movie or series about Animal Man and Mr Terrific next. That would be quite interesting. DC should follow Marvel's lead and focus on the more neglected superheroes of their universe. Once again Marvel is one step ahead of the game and proves that it's all about the storytelling aspects. I love it.
