16 Mar 2017 Do you have a Nvidia graphics card on your desktop? That's great until you are in need of the latest drivers especially when you are a gamer. Unlike Windows, Nvidia drivers for Linux desktops are quite hard to come by, and installing the latest drivers on your Linux desktop can be quite an arduous process.
14 Oct 2011 sudo apt-get remove --purge nvidia*. (removes nvidia-common for some might need to sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop to bring it back manually, wasn't necessary for me) sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf. (removes xorg configuration). After you finish with this one, you should also blacklist the nouveau driver
Now find the section Device, and change the Driver from nv (or vesa, fb, etc) to nvidia, as in the following example, and then save it. Now that your Xorg.conf is saved, we need to shutdown the X11 server so that we can install the new drivers. To do this, save your work and press ctrl-alt-f1, and log in.
24 Jun 2016 Upgrading to the latest version of the proprietary Nvidia drivers in Ubuntu (or Linux Mint) was pretty complicated a while back. You would either have to use the official Linux installer, which was not always reliable, at least for me, or use a bleeding edge PPA, like the Xorg Edgers PPA, which would upgrade
9 Mar 2017 This is a bug about displays on digital outputs being blank when using NVIDIA driver, and can be resolved by editing your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file: Switch to the console by using ctrl+alt+F1, or reboot and select recovery mode from the GRUB menu. Open and edit xorg.conf like this: sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
8 Feb 2010 Installing Nvidia drivers manually isn't as big of a deal as it sounds. It's literally a few button pushes, a round of “Ok", “Ok", “Ok" and a reboot. In ma.
30 Apr 2010 Well, i am one of those users who never install Nvidia drivers from repository, but manually - by downloading from Nvidia`s website. It was never a pain in the rear on previous Linux distros (including Karmic), but i failed to do so on Lynx. Whenever i tried to install it, i got an error: ERROR: Unable to load the
After updating (could take about ~20mins) we need to blacklist the default graphics driver so it does not conflict with our NVIDIA drivers. Now, I believe the driver installation will blacklist for you, but I've run into issues where sometimes it didn't, so I like to manually do it myself before installation. I made a small script to do this
