Curtie seeks out the Englishman Jimmy that is an arm dealer and he rents heavy weapons. Then Curtie provokes a war between gangs to eliminate the greatest number of white slave traders. Meanwhile, the young prostitute Mae meets Church and helps him to release other girls. When Mae vanishes, Curtie seeks her out and finds the truth about Mae.I hadn't heard of this movie but the short synopsis and the inclusion of two respected actors, Kevin Bacon and Djimon Hounsou, persuaded me to watch it.
Oh wow, it was embarrassingly bad.
The acting was a 'B' movie standard throughout by the predominantly Thai cast, with Bacon and Hounsou struggling to raise the bar. The storyline was clumsily sequenced, not helped by dubious editing, staggering from scene to scene with absolutely zero character development whatsoever.
The film was so poor that my girlfriend ended up playing Candy Crush while I contemplated the bowel movement that I was going to enjoy after the closing credits rolled.This film was not only well written, produced and performed, the action scenes were as good if not better than most movies of its genre. Djimon Hounsou has proved to be the next great action hero. Kevin Bacon has done what he always seems to do better than any other actor, he has a niche for picking great movies to act in, and then gives an impressive performance. The subject matter of White Elephant was disturbing. Choosing to make this film was in deed a small act of heroism. Society needs to be kept aware of the horrible inhuman atrocities that occur in the dark corners of our blemished world. Not enough has been done to stop human sex trafficking.
