If stock OEM rods are fine at high RPMs on a stock motor, then im not going to upgrade those, just leave them stock. Just asking a question on behalf of my brother. He bought a mk3 MR2 and proceeded to run it out of oil. Lessons have been learnt! So the question is is it worth rebuilding and are there any renowned rebuilders around the Midlands? Or should he just go for a replacement 2zz VVTLI engine or similar?

19 Feb 2011 yes it did burn oil bad! all those parts are not required! my 00 GT that was drinking oil like it was going out of style was rebuild for much less. i pulled the engine, tore it down, honed the cylinder walls and used 03+ rings. new bearings and engine rebuild kit. total cost of rebuild cost me less than 600 bucks!
