This is to provide some additional information regarding the revised TSB's for VQ35 and VQ40 engine secondary timing chain noise which will be visible to dealers in ASIST on Monday 11/16. As you may . Toyota covered those as a recall and I am sure it cost more than timing chain guides and tensioners.

Frontier SE 4.O L. Automatic transmission; 57,000 miles. Had timing chains tensioners, guides, etc replaced. Developed noise at 57000. Nissan in Eugene Or. wanted $1600 to fix. I had independent fix it for $1400 and that included changing out radiator because they go bad too. Nissan would not help with the timing system
They are "reasonably certain" it is the timing chain tensioner issue covered it in TSB NTB09-128. The 2.5 dci Nissan Pathfinder and Navara which is related to the Frontier (slightly) also has Camchain tensioner issues. Toyota 22RE's were known for needing timing chains, for guides wearing out.

28 Jun 2012 with a timing chain rarely do they ever go bad and sertanlly wouldnt stretch in so few years. if its a belt however normally doesnt require service till 90k. id read up on all this info befor u go in and talk to them also did they show u the old part that they replaced. by law they show old part so u know it was replaced. contact the
