I found out the hard way that my click-style torque wrench no longer "clicks". I sheared Upon playing with the wrench some more, I discovered that it no longer operated properly, it didn't click for any torque setting. As it turned out, the fix was even more simple than I expected, and my wrench is now fully functional again.
With a torque wrench and the manufacturer's torque value in hand, the problem is solved: A “clicker" torque wrench makes an audible click when you've wrench to one-half the recommended torque specification. Did you know there's a right and a wrong way to tighten lug nuts? Most people think “tighter is better." Not true.
