When a kingpin threatens New York City, a group of mutated turtle warriors must emerge from the shadows to protect their home.
When a threat rises from an organization called the Foot Clan, the turtles must rise from their home in the sewers. Leonardo the Leader, Raphael the Rebel, Michelangelo the Comedian and Donatello the Smart must save New York city from Shredder.
I just got back from a screening of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that I saw with my ten year old son. Overall, the movie was what you'd expect from the previews and a basic working knowledge of the turtles. While remaining spoiler free I will say they changed some elements of their origin story making them different from the comic book, previous films, and the various cartoon series. Some of these changes worked well but some to me fell flat. The best thing about this movie for me was that the personalities of the turtles were intact, their look may have been different but I never felt watching this that I was seeing new turtles, I felt like I was watching new adventures of familiar friends. The only complaint I really had is this movie seemed to short. It seemed they were holding back (most likely for sequels) so the story felt incomplete. That being said if your a fan of the heroes in a half shell give this a shot, its got promise and it sets up a new world for the turtles to play in and the more turtle adventures we get the better.
P.s. If your looking for dark and gritty turtles look elsewhere this is a Nickleodeon movie and you can tell it shares far more d.n.a. with the 80's cartoons than the comic books.
So I really wanted to like this one as I'm a huge turtles fan and have been since I was a kid. Unfortunately I just couldn't.
No matter how hard I tried to enjoy this movie it just didn't do it for me. While the turtles designs themselves I think look good they do not fit well in this world and this is really basically Teenage Mutant Ninja Transformers which really isn't a good thing to me because the TMNT are not transformers. They are an entirely different animal and to treat them just like Optimus and the Autobots doesn't make sense. I am only going to give this movie a 4.5 out of 10. It to me is personally a fail.
I did still have fun and enjoy seeing all of the over the top silly action scenes but all around this is not a strong movie, even for the biggest turtles fans such as myself.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is about as predictable as movies get these days.
Scott Mednick, the executive producer, stated that this film will be live-action. Link. The Ninja Turtles themselves however will be computer animated through Motion Capture, as opposed to using practical effects.Link.
