Technically, we can define an origami tessellation as follows: Definition: An origami tessellation is a piecewise linear isometry of]R2 which is invariant under some crystallographic group. 2.2. Crease Patterns. It is most common for origami instructions to be given in step by step diagrams, as in Figure 2. However, for origami

If you have done Eric Gjerde's spread hex I have a variation you can fold on this site. Just look for the Labyrinth tutorial. Take any you have made and start playing with variation on with and 3 dimensionality. Another technique is to layer grids. First create a tessellation and then overlay another as if the grid was untouched.
Some folding instructions are available as step-by-step diagrams while others are in the form of Crease Patterns (CP). Even if you have no experience with CPs, do not be afraid to try them out. Crease Patterns for modular origami and tessellations (and this is what I design most of the time) are usually much simpler than

The first big publication (in English) that demystified tessellations and explained how to fold several stunning projects was Origami Tessellations by Eric Gjerde (also available at The Source). Still, the learning curve for folding tessellations is
More information about the history of origami tessellations can be found in David Listers' essays on Paper Tessellations and their Diagrams. Method 1: Unlike traditional origami, origami tessellations are not made in a linear step-by-step fashion. There are very few instructions on how to fold an origami tessellation and the
