The story of Parava revolves around pigeon race, a game, which is prominent in Mattancherry, Kochi, Kerala.
The Film tells us different themes of lives in Mattanchery,Kochi.The Film tells about the story of two boys dreaming of Championing the Parava(Pigeon) Tournament and some romance between Ichappi(Irshad),one of the two boys.The Film also tells the story of some boys and their club.DULQUER's role has a great part in the movie.Comedy is also average...Sentiments Too...
Whenever I've gone to the movies with lotsa expectations, it has kinda backfired. The same can be said about my experience with Parava too. Technically it has lots of plus points, which has become common in Malayalam releases these days especially from young directors - the editing is crisp, very good background score, visuals that thrill and also the performances amaze. But the story in Parava takes turns that disappoint me. It starts of amazingly well, with attention on two kids Irshad(Amal Shah) & Haseeb(Govind Pai) who are passionate about their pigeons and are best friends. It makes us assume the movie revolves around the lives of these kids. Sometime later, we are then taken into the lives of few adults, Shaine(Shane Nigaam), Imran(Dulquer Salman) and also their buddies like actors Jacob Gregory, Arjun Ashokan(son of Harisree Ashokan, also in the movie) & few others. A tragic development takes place in the lives of these adults which indirectly impacts the kids too. But there are moments that the story goes into that irked me & wasn't necessary I felt especially those that revolve around Irshad's crush on a girl in school, some serious fights between Shaine, Jabo Gregory and a guy at a pharmacy or a climax fight scene which made me wonder if this story was really about these pigeons & fun in Mattanchery or just another revenge,dishoom movie. Parava had the potential to be this beautiful cinematic experience if it had not veered into a side plot of murders and revenge. Violence in this movie was like ink blots splashed on a colorful, bright painting. Still, the movie is mostly likable and I must also highlight the performances here - the boy Irshad was unbelievable for his debut film, he's a natural and other kiddo Govind Pai gives him very good support. Shaine is an intense actor and Dulquer in a cameo lights up the movie in whatever scene he gets. But the performance of the movie goes to Soubin Shahir himself - he's brilliant as a drug addict. And as a director(that too, his debut), he has done exceedingly well with a gift to bring out the best from his actors. Verdict - some unnecessary violence but lot of positive & fun moments coupled with excellent actors make the movie a good, watchable cinema.
