The zathura-pdf-mupdf plugin adds PDF support to zathura by using the mupdf rendering library. mupdf has to be built with -fPIC before it can be linked successfully to our plugin. For the latest version you have to use at least mupdf >= 1.2. If you are using the git version of mupdf, make sure you checkout the mupdf-git

I use mupdf as my default document viewer. It does the best rendering. But since it's intended as a library its built-in viewer is functional though kept pretty minimal and lacking features on purpose. Comparing a document side by side opened with mupdf and zathura (using the default poppler library) makes

22 Jul 2017 Zathura can use mupdf as a backend and has much better bindings/features compared to mupdf, it also supports other ebook formats. Maybe ubuntu should have a more minimal spin with i3wm and apps like zathura. If you don't know what command to run google do whatever command line linux.
The plugin is still not included in Debian repos and so I decided to package it myself. I've uploaded zathura-pdf-mupdf package to Launchpad PPA ppa:spvkgn/zathura-mupdf, it contains packages for 16.04, 16.10, 17.04 and 17.10 Ubuntu series. The plugin compiled against library from latest MuPDF 1.11
