Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Batman is in his 50's and has created the ultimate Batsuit but is no longer fully able to do the job so places the suit away and vows to never use it. Several years later and into the next century there's a new breed of criminal terrorizing Gotham City but Bruce has kept his vow. Terry McGinnis, a teenager whose father was killed because he was going to expose criminal activities at the company that he works for which just happens to be Wayne Enterprises. Terry comes across Bruce as he was being beaten by some thugs, he takes him to the mansion and he discovers the Batcave and the Batsuit; he takes the suit to get the people who killed his father. Afterwards Bruce decides to make him the new Batman and train him.
At least 40 years after the "current" adventures of Batman and 20 years after Bruce Wayne retired from the role, his secret is discovered by troubled teen Terry McGinnis. After McGinnis' father is murdered by the man who took over Bruce Wayne's company, McGinnis dons a high-tech Bat suit that Wayne last used, creating a new hero for a future Gotham.
Bruce Wayne has retired from the life of crime fighting, alone in his mansion on the outskirts of the city, he ponders of what was. And then Terry Mcginnis arrives on his door step and thus a new age of Batman begins.
At the time when this show first arrived, I was Twelve, and I was totally blown away. The story lines were complex and, the action was just as brilliant; the characters were all interesting and intriguing. It was a brilliant show.
Today, I caught a couple of episodes on syndication and I found myself picking up on innuendo's that I missed as a twelve year old, and how 'saucy' certain scenes were in the show. Something, I think you would definitely not see in today's terrible animation.
Honestly, this show has not aged in my opinion; the animation is, dare; I say it...better than the stuff today, its realistic and gritty. Amazing cartoon.
I am a huge fan of Batman (TV Shows and Movies). And from the TV point of view, Batman Beyond is the best Batman show ever. The only reason why some people hate it is because they can't accept a teenager as Batman. I has to be Bruce Wayne. So they want to see someone who is the age of the grandfather as Batman. It's time for a change! It's not like your never going to see Bruce as Batman again. Of course there will be more shows and movies with Bruce as Batman.
But I think Terry makes a better Batman anyways. Great stories, charecters, and voice acting. Any Batman fan and non-Batman fan should love Batman Beyond.
Inque appears similar to Clayface with the ability to alter and shift her form. It is later revealed that Inque's daughter has the surname of 'Clay'.
The terrorist spy 'Falseface' also seems to have similarities to Clayface, with the ability to mold his face like putty, much like Matt Hagen could before transforming into the monster he is more known for.
Spellbinder is a villain with characteristics similar to both the Scarecrow and The Mad Hatter.
