26 Mar 2013 Plaster Masks. I have been making these plaster masks with kids for a few years now. The results are always terrific and the students have a great time applying the masks Apply to the face on the bridge of the nose forming an "X" onto the cheek. We found your instructions and photos to be very helpful.
Smear a coat of petroleum jelly all over the face area to be covered by the mask, concentrating on the eyebrows and hairline. When the plaster hardens, any hair stuck in it will pull out. Dip the strips into the warm water, just long enough to get them wet, and begin applying them to the face.
Use a hole punch to make one hole on either side of the mask, just below the eyes. Then, tie a thick ribbon or string to either hole. You can then secure the mask to your face, or someone else's face, by tying the two ribbons or strings together at the back of the head. Add a beak, horns, or bumps to the mask.

So why use alginate? Two good reasons. Firstly, the internet now warns
