The good news are that bejeweled accepts ANY image format. For example; Popcap puts all the gems in one image, one next to each other, like this.. We will change the gems image.. But for some reason, popcap keeps putting j2p and gif (masking) image files.. and open a program like photoshop to edit the gems. With the same way, you can change the bombgems, but in that case you will change the bombgem path instead. OK, first of all, there were two time periods when I was hacking Bejeweled.
1) Before hacking the main.pak. Go to folder "properties" and open the resources.xml file with notepad. GIF, JPEG, PNG. And there we will change the path of the images. Then save it as "gems.png" in the "tutorial folder.. ...the only way to do it, is to change the PATH of the images bejeweled is searching for.. Since I can't replace any game images. But to make it easier, we will work with PNG only :D. Now DOWNLOAD the image I have in the description. Go to your game directory, and make a folder called "tutorial"..
Let's see how we can do it WITHOUT opening main.pak. The difficult thing here is to make the images.. And to do that, we have to go to "resources.xml". Let's begin. You will find something like this.
