Black bun is a type of fruit cake completely covered with pastry. It is Scottish in origin, originally . region of the United States. In 2013, a recipe was demonstrated by Paul Hollywood on a Christmas special of The Great British Bake Off.
Method. For the pastry, sift the flour into a bowl and rub in the lard and butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4 (fan 160C). For the filling, mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl. Line a 900g/2lb loaf tin with baking parchment.
